Ray started Halloway Heating out of a Transit in 1994 and retired in 2021. There are six of us now and four vans, but the way the work gets priced has not changed: look at the job properly, give one honest number, then stand behind it.

What actually happens in your house on the day
Nobody in this trade publishes this, which is odd, because it is the thing people are most anxious about. This is a like for like combi swap in a Bristol terrace.

Dust sheets down
Hallway, stairs and the room the boiler is in. Before a single tool comes out of the bag.

Old boiler off the wall
Gas capped, system drained, old unit out and straight into the van. This is the loud hour.

Pipework
Gas run upgraded if it needs it, condensate run, filter fitted. The part nobody sees and everything depends on.

Hung, connected, and the system filled and chemically flushed.

Commissioning
Gas rate checked, flue gases tested, every radiator balanced by hand so the far bedroom heats like the near one.

Boiler installation
Most of our installs are a straight combi swap, done in a day, for a price you agreed before we lifted a floorboard. Here is exactly how it runs.
Emergency repairs
No heating, no hot water, or a leak you cannot stop. We keep two engineers on call and we will tell you honestly on the phone whether it is worth repairing.
We also do annual services, landlord safety certificates, powerflushing, radiator work and air source heat pumps. All of it is priced on the pricing page.

What our regular jobs cost
Published prices, updated when they change. A survey may move a number if your house throws up something unusual, and if it does we tell you before we start, not halfway through.

What Bristol customers say, with their names on it
Sam quoted £2,150 for a combi swap in our Victorian terrace and that is exactly what we paid, even after they found the old pipework was the wrong size the whole way up. Two days, no mess, and Ollie hoovered the landing before he left.
Our boiler died on the Friday before Christmas with a four month old in the house. Sam came out at eight in the evening, got us running on a temporary, and fitted the new one on the 27th. I will not use anyone else now.
We got three quotes. Two of them would not put a number on anything until they had done a survey and then chased me for a fortnight. Halloway had the price on their website and stuck to it.
They look after eleven properties for us. Certificates come back the same day, tenants say the engineers are polite, and we have never had an invoice that did not match the quote. That is genuinely rare.

How much does a new boiler cost in Bristol?
A like for like combi swap in the same position starts at £1,995 fitted, including a ten year guarantee. Moving the boiler to a different wall starts at £2,650. Converting from a tank and cylinder system to a combi starts at £3,150. Those are our real starting prices and they are on our pricing page rather than hidden behind a form.
Do you charge for a survey?
No. The survey takes about twenty minutes, it is free, and there is no obligation. You get a written price by email the same evening.
What happens if the price changes once you have started?
It does not. The written figure is what you pay. If we find a problem behind the old boiler, we fix it and absorb it. That is the whole point of quoting properly rather than guessing.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes, registration 218446. Every engineer carries their own card and you are welcome to check it on the Gas Safe Register before we touch anything.
How quickly can you come out in an emergency?
Most emergency calls inside Bristol are seen the same day. We hold two slots back every day rather than booking the diary solid, and households with a baby, an elderly resident or someone unwell go first.
Which areas do you cover?
All Bristol BS postcodes, plus Keynsham, Portishead, Clevedon and Thornbury. If you are further out, ring and ask. We would rather tell you no than turn up late.
Do you fit heat pumps?
Yes. Air source heat pump installs start at £9,400 before the government grant. We will also tell you honestly if your house is not ready for one, which is more often than the adverts suggest.
